Our brain requires energy to perform any actions particularly when we have to concentrate and think about anything. Problem-solving or making a decision not only uses more brain energy but also can be a slow process. So our brain seeks to conserve energy by developing efficient ways of operating. One way it does this is through conscious and subconscious processing.
Our brain seeks to automate much of what we do to save us time and brain energy. So, let’s learn about conscious vs subconscious thinking.
Conscious vs Subconscious thinking
What is Subconscious thinking?
The subconscious thing is a process that helps us take care of basic life functioning. Our fight or flight response and learned behaviors don’t happen for any reason but are on autopilot. In fact, around 95% of our behaviors take place at the subconscious level.
It helps store our experience and knowledge and form memories. Anything, stored in our brain like in the form of a picture or photo, that we can refer to afterwards, is due to the subconscious mind.
When we refer to a past event, it’s because of subconscious thinking. This is how our attitudes develop for the most part. Our subconscious mind helps us navigate the world efficiently.
What is Conscious thinking?
Conscious thinking is the realization of what we notice, or what happens around us. It helps us know what we are engaged with, or what we are seeing, talking about, or touching at a moment. The conscious mind is what plans, controls, and takes more energy.
